The Perfect New Years Resolution For Agents (And Everyone Else)

Posted:

According to this article by Bernice Ross, the number one New Year’s resolution should be to eliminate toleration. Bernice talks about improving virtually every aspect of your life by
New Years Resolutions For Agents (And Everyone Else)eliminating toleration’s.

Toleration’s are the annoying little things that put agents out of focus and waste their valuable time and energy. It can be something as simple as too many phone calls, a dirty car or a messy desk. These are energy drainers and when we obsess over them, we take our focus off of what really matters.

Bernie says, “With each tiny delay in handling the toleration, you waste energy by first noticing it, second by reminding yourself that you need to handle it, and finally, feeling guilty for not taking action.” We have literally hundreds of toleration’s in our life and life coaches have likened this type of distraction to dying by 100 paper cuts. That’s a serious analogy. Little toleration’s can be aggravating and annoying but add them up and they can have a profound negative effect on ourselves and our business.

The goal Bernice says is to eliminate one toleration a day. That could mean cleaning up a stack of papers, cleaning out the coffee pot, writing that check or sending that letter, etc.

“If you want to attract more business, the perfect romantic partner, or simply just want more time for you, eliminating toleration’s creates the space for these other possibilities to appear.”

Bernice says your second New Year’s resolution should be to take extreme self-care. This is where you need to be willing to say “no.” How much of your day is wasted by other people in your office? People who drain your energy and give nothing back in return? You have to say no to these people and mean it. When we take on too much, our bodies release excessive amounts of adrenaline. This can cause increased stress, increased cortisol levels which can damage our immune system and lead to heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses. It’s funny how just those little toleration’s can really add up to major issues.

Finally, Bernice says you need to make a regular appointment everyday with yourself to do at least two things that support you and your well-being, whether its reading or working out, relaxing in a bath or playing a game. When you take time out of your busy life for yourself, many of these stresses and toleration’s will no longer be your major focus and you can get back to being successful.
